Southern Decedence 2007 came and went, along with so many of the party goers there and the streets are stained to prove it. This was my first So Dec party, and honestly, I do not know why I had not gone sooner. With the exception of the extremely humid heat, it was by far one of the best times I have had all year. I arrived in New Orleans on Thursday with a friend. Chi Chi LaRue had the infamous Battle of the Bulge contest that night, which we did not want to miss, and thankfully it lived up to it’s name. This also gave us a chance to get our bearings since neither one of us had been there before. Our mission … naked male strippers … as many as we could possibly fit in that weekend. Unfortunately, thanks to the Bush administration, they are no longer able to get naked. But that didn’t stop us from having fun. Thankfully we had a few tips on the best places to go.
Our first stop, The Corner Pocket. Their slogan is Boys on the Bar and they had lots of boys dancing on the bar. If you sit at the bar, realize that you are expected to tip. If you don’t want to tip, stand off to the side. The guys do walk around after they get off of the bar and you can pick and choose the ones you want. During the Decedence weekend though, this place is packed and the bar is full. It is hard to get a drink, much less a place to sit at the bar. They have a pool table in the back which the boys get up to dance on. This is one of the best places to be if the bar is full. The guys have to walk to the back towards the changing room and you can get a little more one on one time with them. The dancers at the corner pocket are not muscle studs, these are younger guys, probably not exceeding 22. Many thanks to two particular go-go boys Eddie and Diego who made that weekend memorable.
We then tried out Madrigals on Bourbon Street. This was a quite little venue you enter through a courtyard and go up some rickety old stairs. Watch out for this when going back down so your sorry drunken ass doesn’t eat it all the way down. This was much more of a burlesque show. The cute muscle dancers were announced and then performed on stage. Some of the costumes left little to the imagination and all of the dancers were extremely friendly. They walked around after their set and talked with the clientele which gave us all some personal time to tip them. All of the dancers also offered private lap dances. One of my favorite sets was by a dancer named AJ. He came out in a black pants, a jacket and a fedora. After a few minutes, the jacket came off, the pants were torn away and he stood there naked, covering himself with his hat. I still thank the mirror behind him for giving us a very special view.
